Material information
The carbon circumferences are made by hand. The cutting and draping of the fabric layers, the curing process of the plastic matrix and the milling of the blanks take several hours. A special challenge is the subsequent painting. In order to enhance the distinctive depth effect of the carbon fabric, the components are painted several times. Every single coat must be dried and then sanded. After applying the last layer of varnish, the carbon part is polished to a high gloss (the exception being the open-pored carbon versions). The carbon components are qualified according to the current BMW standard. Only in this way can it be ensured that the high requirements, eg with regard to ageing and temperature resistance without cracking or paint delamination are met by the substrate and a yellowing of the matrix is avoided. This high degree of manual work and qualification effort is responsible for the price.
