Drive Now, Pay Later with Clearpay

Clearpay allows you to shop now and pay later, always interest-free*. With Clearpay, your purchase will be split into 4 payments, payable every 2 weeks.

Simply shop with one of your favorite stores found in the Shop Directory and choose Clearpay as your payment method at checkout. First-time customers will need to create a Clearpay account (with instant approval decision) and returning customers will simply log in to make their purchase. For online orders, the goods will be shipped to you by the retailer after checkout. For in-store shopping, download the Clearpay mobile app, follow the in-app instructions to set up the Clearpay Card, and use the Clearpay Card with Apple Pay or Google Pay to make a contactless payment at checkout. You’ll pay 25% at the time of purchase, and take your purchase home that day.

At any time, you can log in to your Clearpay account to see your payment schedule and make a payment before the due date. Otherwise we will automatically take the money from your debit or credit card on your payment due dates.

Please Note: Clearpay does not approve 100% of orders. We are committed to ensuring we support responsible spending.
When determining which orders to approve, we consider a number of different factors. As an example, the longer you have been a shopper using Clearpay and the more orders you have successfully repaid, the more likely you will be able to spend more.

This is known in the industry as Data Security Standard Level 1 and applies to all the major payment companies around the world. Achieving this standard includes accreditation to the highest level of:

  • Secure Networks and Systems
  • Data Protection
  • Strong Access Control
  • Regular Monitoring and Testing

Their entire business depends on their community trusting them to help them plan, buy and pay – including managing and protecting their data.

You can let Clearpay know if you’ve returned an order so they can push back your next scheduled payment for up to 2 weeks while the retailer processes your returned item(s). This means they won’t apply any late fees during this period.

Simply open the Clearpay App and follow these steps:

        1. Select the active order you are returning
        2. From the Order Details menu (top right) select Returning an order
        3. Indicate whether you are returning by mail or returning instore
        4. Fill in the details of the return as prompted

That’s it! They’ll pause the next payment due for up to 2 weeks so the merchant (ML Performance) has extra time to process the return and notify Clearpay before your next payment is due. They’ll email you the updated Payment Schedule which you can see at any time in the app.

Please note that you’ll only be able to make this request once per order. Additionally, if your return isn’t completed by your next payment date and amounts remain due (e.g. you later decide not to return the item after pausing the next payment), you may have 2 payments due on the same day. Late fees will apply if these payments aren’t made on time.

You do not have to notify them of the return. As soon as we receive your goods and confirm the refund, they will send the applicable amount back to the payment card you originally paid with.

When a refund is processed by the merchant (ML Performance), you will receive an email from Clearpay which will give you a breakdown of the refund. This email will detail the amount that has been refunded, and the adjustments that have been made to your payments as a result. Your refund will be applied starting from your final payment and working backwards to earlier payments.

If you are concerned that a refund has not been processed correctly, the first thing to check is that the amount that has been refunded in your Clearpay refund confirmation email matches the amount that has been refunded in the merchant's (ML Performance) refund confirmation email.

        • If the amount is the same, we would recommend reaching out to the merchant (ML Performance), as Clearpay has correctly applied the refund amount that the merchant (ML Performance) processed.
        • If the amounts are different, get in touch with us so we can investigate what has happened. Please include a screenshot of the email from the merchant (ML Performance)!

If payments were still owed on the order, your remaining payments have likely been adjusted or cancelled.

Let's have a look at this example:

          • Sam's order total was $500.40. She returned an item that was to the value of $143.10.
          • Sam still had two payments left on this order when the refund was processed.
          • Her final payment had been cancelled, and the third installment was reduced to $107.10 to reflect the refund.
          • In this case, Sam will not be receiving a refund back to her card, but the order has been correctly adjusted. If Sam had paid off the whole order, she would have received a refund of $143.10 back to her card.

The refund back to your card has been processed in installments, not a lump sum.

When a refund back to your card is owed, it is not refunded to you as a lump sum. The refund will be sent back to the card that was used to pay for the individual installment. So the way that the order was paid for will be the way that it will be refunded, starting from your final payment and working backwards.

Returns are always subject to the individual merchants (ML Performance) policy, which can typically be found on our website or by contacting us directly. If you make a return and we process  a refund, it will automatically be reflected in your payment schedule.

If you believe that the merchant (ML Performance) has processed an incorrect refund amount, we would recommend that you reach out to us directly to query this. You can do this by visiting our website and locating our contact information. Clearpay cannot override the refund amount that is processed by the merchant (ML Performance). It is possible that the refund is correct, but it may have been taken off of your remaining installments. The amount could also differ depending on whether a non-refundable shipping charge was included.

Depending on which financial institution you are with, refunds can take up to 10 business days to reflect in your bank account.

If you have not received your refund within this timeframe, please get in touch with your bank.

It is important to note that refunds from Clearpay will go back to the card that was used to pay for the individual installment. If you have used different cards to pay for your installments, it is normal to not receive all refunded amounts at the same time.

If your card has been cancelled, you can get in touch with your bank for some help. A lot of the time, the funds will be sitting in a general ledger (unallocated funds) account. The representative at the bank will be able to reassign those funds into your correct account.

The most important thing to do first is check your emails. Clearpay will always send you an email to let you know that your refund is on its way. If you have not received this email, it means that we have not processed your refund/order cancellation.

Once the refund is processed by the merchant (ML Performance), it will automatically reflect in your Clearpay app and your payments will be adjusted according to the amount that has been refunded. In most cases this will be very quick, but in some cases the refund can take 3-5 days to reach your Clearpay order.

Sometimes it can take a few days for us to process the order cancellation. This is normal, and typically no cause for concern! If a few days have gone by and your order has not been adjusted or cancelled, you can reach out to us and ask us for an update.

After making a return, it may take several days for us to accept the return and process a refund, especially if you’ve returned items via mail. Until the refund is confirmed and processed by us, your original payment schedule with Clearpay will continue. You can also push back your next payment to allow time for the refund to be processed. If you are wanting an update about the status of the refund, please reach out to us directly.

First, we have to process the refund in their system. The refund will then drop through to reflect on your Clearpay account, and if you're owed a refund back to your card, it will be returned to the card that was used to make the payments.

Once processed, the money can take up to 10 business days to be returned to your card/s, depending on your financial institution.

It is important to remember that returns are always subject to the merchants (ML Performance) refund policy. This information can normally be found on their website or by contacting the merchant (ML Performance) directly.

Clearpay customers will be asked to make the first payment at the time you create an order.  This will be clearly communicated to you prior to you confirming your order.

There are a few different reasons as to why your order could be declined.

You are a new customer of Clearpay:

If you have had your account for less than 6 weeks, we may limit you to a smaller number of purchases. As Clearpay does not conduct credit checks, our restrictions are tighter when you first get started. This is to ensure that we are upholding our commitment to responsible spending.

          What can I do?

          • Try lowering your order amount if you are shopping with us for the first time. Whilst this is not a guarantee that your order will be approved, it is still a good starting point.
          • Depending on how many orders you have placed, you may need to allow some time before you attempt to shop with us again. After the 6 weeks have passed, you may be able to spend more with us.

What has your recent order history been like?

Clearpay is passionate about ensuring that our customers use our service responsibly. If you have had recent late payments, this can impact your ability to shop with us.

            What can I do?

            • Ensure that your payments are paid on time. You may need to allow some time to build a positive repayment history with us again before you can place new orders.
            • Think you’re going to be late with a payment? You may be able to extend the due date in your App! Alternatively, you can get in touch with us at least 24 hours before the due date so we can offer some help.

              Check your card:

Your card is super important! There are a few things that you can double check if your order is being declined.

              What can I do?

              • Double check how much money you have in your bank account. You must have 25% of the purchase price available on your card for your order to be approved. For example, a £100 order would require £25 to be in your account.
              • Is your card working as expected? Make sure to check that your card is active and unrestricted. If your bank has blocked your card, your order will not go through and Clearpay cannot override this! When in doubt, reach out to your bank to make sure.

A partial refund will be applied in the following order:

                • Unpaid payments
                • Actual payment amounts that have been charged on the payment method (will be refunded to your card/s)
                • The discount amount (will not be refunded to your card)
