AIRTEC Motorsport are proud to introduce the front mount intercooler upgrade for the VAG MQB EA888 Gen 3 platform.
Our comprehensive kit has undergone vigorous testing at Time Attack, the Nürburgring and on the dyno to ensure consistent and accurate performance improvements.
Silver shown for illustration purposes, only available in Pro-Series Black.
This freer-flowing intercooler is a direct replacement for the smaller and more restrictive OEM set up. Featuring a 60mm core design together with high-flow cast end tanks, the AIRTEC intercooler offers much greater surface area, efficiency and volume over standard. The inlet is 63mm whilst the outlet is a larger 70mm to further improve flow.
The bigger outlet is best suited with our 70mm big boost pipe kit that compliments the larger intercooler and future proofs any further upgrades for those owners looking to increase power further. Despite this improvement, it fits neatly in replacement of the stock intercooler, requires no trimming or cutting and can be used with the air conditioning intact.
As with all AIRTEC products, the intercooler was tested back-to-back on the dyno against the OEM item. This showed a huge reduction in air charge temperatures over standard. Our test car was fitted with a Cobra cat-back exhaust system and running Revo Stage 1 software. Stock intercooler temps reduce to an average of 64 degrees and peak at 68 degrees (after five back-to-back runs). On the Stage 1 Revo software, the car struggled to produce a peak power increase of 40bhp, due to the restrictive and inefficient OEM VW intercooler being unable to cool the intake temperatures effectively.
With the AIRTEC intercooler fitted, the IAT saw a huge drop of 120 degrees, keeping temps much closer to ambient temperature and proving to be more reliable run after run. This gave a huge increase in performance, shown by the dyno test results below. Test results taken at AmD Tuning rolling road:
Before AIRTEC intercooler was fitted, the car made 336.1bhp & 350.9 lb ft of torque
After the intercooler was fitted it made a very impressive 371.8bhp & 352.9 lb ft
Standard intercooler:
Run 1 – IN 115 degrees, OUT 44 degrees
Run 2 – IN 117 degrees, OUT 48 degrees
Run 3 – IN 118 degrees, OUT 52 degrees
AIRTEC intercooler:
Run 1 – IN 116 degrees, OUT 18 degrees
Run 2 – IN 117 degrees, OUT 20 degrees
