These bolts are meant for use with many ice racing organizations in their "spec stud class. Specs:
- M8x1.25 bolts (metric equivalent to 5/16)
- 1.25 long
- Class 10.9 (metric equivalent to grade 8)
- Each bolt comes with a washer and nylon insert locknut for the outside of the tire.
- Flange head bolt doesnt require a washer on the inside.
- Figure out how many studs youre allowed according to your organizations rules
- Pick out a tire with well-defined tread blocks; itll make creating a pattern easier
- Drill 3/16 holes from outside in for each stud
- Put a dab of urethane windshield adhesive on the end of a stud and use a drill/impact to push it through
- Put a small bead of adhesive all around the outside of the bolt where it comes out of the tire
- Add washer and tighten nut. The washer should squish the tread pretty well on the outside; it should feel pretty darn tight
There are a lot of factors to consider when choosing a tire for ice racing. We believe the ideal tire has a stiff sidewall, has minimal tread to not eat up bolt length, and isnt dry rotting. Something less than 5 years old is ideal. Stay away from racing slicks and non-DOT tires, as they will crack at cold temperatures. Ask us how we know
